How our book club gives back: Our Tiny Bookclub’s community efforts

When I think about what makes our book club so special, I realize it’s not just about the books we read or the thoughtfulness of our conversations (though those are certainly highlights). What truly makes our group meaningful is the sense of connection we share. I’ve found that books have a unique power to bring people together. I’ve found that the stories we read have a way of inspiring us to reach out, help others, and make a difference in a small, yet impactful way. That love can be powerful, not just for ourselves, but for the community around us too. Over the years, I’ve come to realize that one of the most fulfilling aspects of our club is how we can use our love of books to give back to others. Here’s a glimpse into how our book club has found ways to give back to our community, through the very things that unites us: books.

The ways we give back

In the last period, I’ve been focusing on the following two ways to support.

1. Supporting local independent bookstores

The first important way we give back is by supporting our local independent bookstores. These small businesses are the heart of any literary community, and we’ve made it a point to partner up with Bookshop.org to foster relationships with the owners so that people buy the books locally. It’s our way of showing appreciation for the places that nurture our reading habits and help keep the bookstores alive.

2. Contributing to girls’ education worldwide

The second important way we give back is by donating 10% of the proceeds I make with this platform, to donate to the Malala Fund. In more human terms, this means that whenever you buy a book from a link here, I receive a small percentage of its price. So 10% of those proceeds will be used to contribute to girls’ education worldwide.

Celebrating the community we’ve built

As a book club, we’ve always believed that the greatest gift we can give is the gift of time. Become an insider by signing up to my newsletter below, and receive my future book recommendations. Or, if you can’t get enough—follow the Tiny Bookclub on Instagram.

Why Giving Back Matters

When I reflect in these outreach efforts, I realize that they are not just efforts about charity or good deeds—we see them as part of the very fabric of who we are as a book club. At the end of the day, books remind us that we’re not alone in this world–that we’re all connected throught the stories we tell, the characters we meet, and the lessons we learn. We’re creating a space where stories matter, where people matter, and where the simple act of reading can help make the world a little kinder, a little more compassionate, and a little more connected.
