When I finish a book and am deciding what to read next, my next book read will be the complete opposite of what I read before most of the times. I like it when books make me think, and after I’ve processed most often I find a book that serves a different fascination of mine. In the next section I like to share with you some books I loved reading. It’s a great mix of my greatest interests: mental health, the environment and relationships. This is my summer reading list 2021, I hope you can find something that you’d like to read.
Summer reading list 2021
1. Educated
The book Educated, A Memoir, chronicles the self-taught journey of Tara Westover from a Mormon surveillist home to Harvard and Cambridge. It’s a very inspiring story about the duality of family ties and trauma on the one hand, and the value of reading books and teaching yourself things on order to heal yourself. For my thoughts on this book, read the book review.
2. Love in the time of cholera
This is a beautiful love-story. In their youth, Florentino Ariza and Fermina Daza fall passionately in love. When Fermina eventually chooses to marry a wealthy, well-born doctor, Florentino is devastated – but he is a romantic. As he rises in his business career he whiles away the years in 622 affairs – yet he reserves his heart for Fermina. Her husband dies at last, and Florentino purposefully attends the funeral. Fifty years, nine months, and four days after he first declared his love for Fermina, he will do so again.
